Lewis F
Hi everyone, My spaniel is know coming along nicely with her training but there is one aspect which I feel isn't correct, I have now got her turning on the whistle but some time's (mainly when I use the paddock at home I don't think there's much scent in there as we only get the odd rabbit!) she will look at me whilst running across? she doesn't do this all the time. Could this be because I used to give her arm signals when introducing the whistle, is there anyway I can correct this? An advice will be great! thanks
MiLisCer
She is running not quartering - but nothing wrong with a dog that keeps its eye on you. Mike
Lewis F
So if she is just running in a pattern, how will this differ from quartering I'm still learning thanks!
GW80
Does she look like she is hunting or just covering the ground? Has she got her nose to the ground and is her back end going like she's hunting? I know when im doing it right when my spaniels back end is going well! Make sure she is hunting correct before putting too much discipline into her!!

Make sure she is hunting correct before putting too much discipline into her!! When were in the paddock she doesn't really look like she's hunting but if I put her out of site in one of the stable's, then change my boots so she doesn't pick up my scent and walk along the edge of the paddock and throw some dummies into the paddock in a like a zig zag pattern and then get the dog to hunt, her nose hardly comes up of the ground and her back end is going like you said then if I repeat this with out the dummies she still hunts and her nose is down, but if I go up the in the morning without putting her in a stable and no dummies on the ground I send her of and when she runs across me she looks at me as if to say "there's nothing here" could this be lack of scent on the ground? thanks lewis

Ok will do! she mainly doesn't hunt when were're up in the paddock which I think is down to lack of scent. thanks

If someone close to you has a rabbiit pen it may be of benefit to let her have a good chase at some live game. But make sure you only give her 1 chase! Plus remeber not all spaniels will hunt just for the sake of it!!
