Toy soldiers

Well, After arriving at Toy soldiers for the 0900 start, we headed into the camp to meet the instructors ( Aaron, and Sean) for a quick cuppa ( things looking good already). Once all that days shooters had arrived, a quick description of the camp area, location of toilets etc. Then it was onto the range for a quick zero session 5 pellets grouped into <50mm (in the black of the small bisley targets). I feel that is is more to show competency and you're not a "Walter Mitty" type.

Once we had all grouped to our and the instructors satisfaction, we had a walk around the perimeter of the shooting areas, and the likleyhood of what quarry in what location, from squirrels, woodpigeon, to rabbits. There is a mixture of woodland, coppiced wooded area, and fields to shoot, so plenty to choose from.

Once the walk around, and safety briefs were concluded, we were issued with personal radios and earpieces, so we could comunnicate with the rest of the shooters and basecamp. Off we trotted, both my shooting buddy Sue, and I trying our best to be silent and stealthy (not being one of lifes anorexics, this is no mean feat for me :yp: ).

After heading down towards the coppiced area, we seen a few Rabbits, but as we were almost on top of them, all we got was the flash of white tail waving "Sayonara suckers" before disappearing into the undergrowth. After heading back to camp and chatting to Sean about best places to find rabbits, we decided to aplit up, Sue going back to the coppiced area, and me trying the field, and around the church. After stalking through a gap in the hedge i saw a rabbit about 10 yds away, then the rabbit and i both played "statues" for a bit, then i slowly brouht the Ultra up to my shoulder, then remebering my hold-under, sent rabbit off to bunny heaven. A quick walk back to camp, to be shown how to "hock" the rabbit then off to find Sue, once found we decided to keep in the field and around a woodpile, as i had spotted a warren there. after wating for awhile we saw no bunnies, but being the middle of the afternoon, they would have been lying low anyways.

Sue then decided to look again down the coppiced area, while i hobbled back to camp (note to self, break boots in BEFORE shooting all day). Once we had all arrived into camp, Sean showed me how to gut, and skin the rabbit ready for eating, (youtube can only show so much). then it was a quck de-brief, and home for a nice cool beer and a sit down ( I gave the rabbit to Sue, as she promised her hubby bunny stew lol ).

All in a very enjyoyable day from my point of view, very safety oriented, but not restrictive. On a personal note i feel that maybe a night shoot, or the 2 day shoot would prove more productive, as they would be better times to shoot.

Well worth the monies for the day, especially if you dont have a permission. Very informally informative and a hot brew available all day

I for one WILL be going back :good:

Steve

P.S. prices have increased to £40 for the day shoot

Just got an email from Sean, and he liked the feedback given to this post. And as a result he is offering a 15% discount untill Dec 2011. :good: if interested just quote the code “pw10sf” in your booking email, and he will amend the price.

One of the joys of being a PW member

Happy shooting guys, best not miss a good day out, if you close to the south east, or as i said, its worth the weekend shoot if further away.

Birmingham, and Leicester are no more than 4 hours drive. might even suggest discount for a possible PW meet ( max of 6 tho) :D

Steve

P.S. i am NOT affiliated to Toy Soldiers in any way :yp:
