Pigeon Magnet

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm pretty new to pigeon shooting but I just got myself some land with some great flightlines.

I already have 9 hollow pigeon shells which I put out but the flying pigeons are not that interested.

I'm after a pigeon magnet/flapper/bouncer but not sure what to type to get (limited budget also). I've done some internet home work but I'm after some of your help as I'm a bit confused as to what types work best.

Please can anyone give me some advice on what type of 'attracter' to buy to bring those pigeons in and if anyone can suggest where I can get a good deal on one.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got a couple of cheap flappers from GMK off the ebay, and they are not bad, plus picked up some real cheap priced (USED and new) decoys of fleabay too. So if you´re on a budget, it´s worth looking there or on amazon.

You´ll get some good deals in the for sale section on here too, just have to shop around a little, and wait till the bargain pops up :good:

Hi Sean,

firstly on the subject of pigeon attractor gizmo's.

They all work sometime. That is, a rotary, a flapper, a floater.

They don't all work ,all the time.

If I can give you one tip, it is, try to get your decoys where the birds want to feed. Not just under or near a bit of a flight line. that may work now and then, but not always.(I know it's not always possible to get where they're feeding.)

You may be seeing a bit of a trend here in my advice. Different days , different ways.

If I was to chose only one pigeon gizmo, then I would go for an electronic flapper. closely followed by a rotary. And lastly, the floater.

But like I've said, what may work a treat one day, might scare the living daylights out of the pigeon, the next day.

So keep experimenting, but remember that one tip I gave you.

Also try and get out with an experienced pigeon shooter a couple of times. You'll be surprised how much info you'll pick up.

Be aware that buying cheap often means buying twice (at least), some of the cheap electrical decoying equipment offered on eBay is not that good and there have been many posts on here complaining about it.

See it as an investment and buy from a recognised supplier who will help you out if you have any problems.

UKShootwarehouse have a good rotary deal and you get the Pigeon Watch discount, their Ad appears at the top of the page.

For cheaper moving decoys, floaters and bouncers work well and if you have a look in the DIY section, there are home made options.

I have a similar question -

Having been stung by the rip-off merchants that are decoying .co.uk, I have managed to recover the funds I paid them for a rotary package that never materialised by having the bank take the funds from them! - moving on....

I am now going to purchase from a reputable company and am looking at the UKSW options. Does anyone have any views as to which rotary is better out of the Sillosocks machine and the Pro-motion rotary that they stock? There's only a few quid in it so just after which people think is best.

For adding some cheap movement to your decoy pattern you could also get in touch with Deny Essex for his Decoy Dippas, they are a small attachment you can add to your shell decoys which will make your decoys peck.

Agree with CosD. They are a natty bit of kit for getting some movement to entice the early birds if like me you always go out without any dead ones from your previous outing!!
