part of my companies maintenance schedule is removing abandoned cars.usually i phone a contractor and he drags them away but this time i had to go and have a look as there were four cars at the same property.

a pristine 1972 450sl mercedes, not been taxed for five months.the interior is mint, every panel is straight and there is no rust at all.long and short of it is if i can get it to my house its mine.

a mate who works for mercedes will get me keys cut,i have full permission to remove it but how do i get it registered in my name.as its been dumped ( i have good reason to beleive the owner has emigrated ) can i write to the dvlc and ask for a log book ?

provided the engine isnt totally ruined i intend to flog it on

Fill in a form you get from the Post office or your local DVLA office i think a V52 or something and send it off as YOU as the new owner

They send a letter to the OLD owner and if nothing is heard from them i beleive they WILL issue you with the V5 for it

Best take a look on the DVLA website for clarification or perhaps call into your local office and have a chat

In the mean time have it taken to yours so it dont get trashed

Apply for the logbook in your name and the DVLA automatically send notification to the last registered owner. If they fail to respond you will get the logbook. But they may have moved etc. I have done this before and so far, touch wood, there has been no problems.
