Pole Star
I am new here on pigeon watch so am slowly finding my way around the parts of the site ect , it strikes me with some sadness to see the large number of decent young chaps despratly trying to find even just a small morsel ! of pigeon & rabbit shooting & it looks like that most of them are struggling . These days I am a long way from the crop lands of England but I am no stranger to the place as I grew up in Bucks & I still get down every now & again . Some thing I have never been able to get my head around is the number of gas bangers on crops & no one shooting pigeons , yet look through this site & see the chaps looking for it ! ,some one suggested wearing a jacket & tie when you knock on a farmers door, ok it may help but should a chap in camo be any unless worthy than a chap in a jacket & tie ?. You have only got to look at the MORONS that govern us via parliament too see that dosen't mean you are an upstanding member of the society , look how many of the b***** got caught with thire fingers in the till & wore the same jacket & tie when plod loaded them into the paddy wagon to take em away to the slammer !!. I know from my own experienc that farmers are very cageie & suspicious on first meetings , suppose they have to be . So I think its a case of social net working & a good place for that is down at the cattle mart on sale day or put an ad on notice board there . If you do go for a mooch about in sale yard dont worry about the jacket & tie as even the farmers dont wear em! , infact there are the ones who are coverd in & stinking of s**** , the jacket would get ruined !!!. You might have to learn a thing or to about sheep&cattle though so you can tune into their wave lenth & the mart is agood place to start learning , once you have broken through that barrier you should find they are a jolly old bunch . I know where dirt level planet earth is ! & on dirt level earth some farmers are just down right mean & woulden't give you the pickings from their nose !. If he says no thanks I got a gas banger ! offer to buy him a bottle of gas in exchange for a week ends shooting for two of you . If that fails then some where on one of these sites I did tell some one of another method ! You work it out ! Good Luck POLE STAR . ps forgive me if I have this in the wrong section I thik it should be in permissions or help & advice. Sprackles
Gas banger next to where I work but the farmer is well known in the area for not letting anyone shoot. Sat and watched hordes of pigeons streaming in day after day.

Bleeh
The best way to get pigeon shooting is getting to know the farmer personally. No matter what people might sprout on about, letting someone shoot on you land is a very easy way to cause yourself as many issues as it might cause solutions. Gas Bangers, on the other hand, get put out and taken in when done with. No need to be bothered with people asking if they can go out, no dog walkers phoning the police, no shooters moaning about someone else being allowed to shoot, and no gamekeepers moaning about pheasants being scared. Yep its a tough world out there & farmers can be too busy too talk when on the farm or they are out some where ploughing or what ever, so if you dont drink in the same boozer with them then they are a little hard to track down . When they have finished work some times it can be very late & the last thing they want is some one knocking on the door asking if you can shoot a few pigeons !. Now if you find em down the mart on sale day & get to know who's who & get in amongst em , then you will get a chance make a few friends there . Farmers are farmers & often married into other farmers families ! infact there are abreed of their own & they can be a hard nut too crack ! ,but if you crack it then youre in !. When I have been out to shoot sand grouse on a farm in South Africa we got to know the farmer & he liked us & after the second year we had a trip out there, he said " my brother has a farm in Namibia if you want you can go there for a shot !" .The point I am making is get to know one & you will get to know many more & the same applies in here in Orkney or Australia or any where else with farmers . My words are only to offer advise ! , see how you get on & good luck to all decent shooters . Pole Star . ps if he gives you a bit then never forget to offer him some thing in return. Perhaps you shouldn't have bullied him at school then !
