rimmie
Hi all my mate has a nice 8 bore he wants to get rid of I think it's a greyleg he only wants £500 for it the only thing is the cartridges for it. It's nitro prof and all the rest and another friend works in a foundry and they use an 8 bore "gun" to blow the **** of the Walls of the furnace BUT they use 8 bore solid slug so could I use these for shot ? I'm thinking in terms of crimping. Also how much would the reloading machine be or can I modify a Lee loadall or a similar press to do the job. If anyone has some info please
DOLLSEYES
Hi Mate, Yes you could use the empty 8 bore cases from your mates place of work for reloading shot for your gun. They are known as "8 bore kiln cases or industrial cases" and as you say, they use them for knocking the klinkers from the top of the kiln so they don't have to shut down to clean them off. They will have to be resized and then reloaded.Try "clay and game" for your reloading kit.Your gun is a 10 bore that has been bored to a 8 bore by Elderkins or Alan Myers and as such has 3.5" chambers. scolopax
No you cannot use the solid slugs through your greylag, a: your gun would blow up, b: they would not fit in the chamber (fortunately). 8 bores can be reloaded easily, the cases will need re sizing (so they will fit in the chamber), you will need some way of depriming and priming (can be done with hand tools - but be carefull), a set of scales to measure powder and shot, and finally some way of sealing the cartridge, a simple RTO tool is perfect or you can alternatively just secure the over shot card place with a silicone/glue. rimmie
I no I can't use slug that's why I asked If the emptys can be loaded for shot but I was unsure as there is no crimped. I didn't think of glue though interesting
shakin stevens
If you have deep pockets clay and game sell all the bits to reload 8bore cases, ive found them winchester kiln cases take some resizing, ive got a good brass resizer and a press and sometimes they take some pushing through to fit in my 8bore. like its already been said they are very easy to reload. rimmie
Thanks shaken what sort of resizer is it ? Is it like a resizing die for rifle ammo? I reload for my .223 so could I get a die set for that ? And what about wads etc?
shakin stevens
yes it is, one way of doing it is find the dimensions of the bore and true dimensions of the cases and then go to a engineering shop and get one machined up in brass, mine resizes twice so its not all hard work in one push, my pal had a greylag and his cases didnt fit in mine my gun it would not shut, have a look on clay and game web page he has them for sale for around £50 then another £45 for a rto. rgds bob. Tolley D/B8
For all your hand loading tools try Ray Prior on 01162 911178, mobile 07928022913. He makes them for all guages and can fit you up with everything you want, Ive found him the cheapest, with good quality. With your greylag 8 make sure its no more than half choke in both barrels if you intend to shoot 2.1/4 oz of ITM, or you stand a good chance of ending up with a gun that looks like a blunderbuss. Good Hunting.

Tolley D/B8
Just one more thing I forgot to mention, your greylag d/b 8 is bored 815 thou so make sure you dont put standard wad through it of 835 th and keep away from the plastic wads always use felt type. I would get a wad cutter and make them no more than 820 th same as the card wads. All these can be obtained from the contact Ray Prior.
