kermitpwee
Saw a nice 20 bore Laurona, its a modern gun but has extensive pitting in the right barrel near the chamber so I am worried would it blow up? I am in Ireland and gunsmiths are far and few here.
Gordon R
Lauronas traditionally have chrome lined barrels. I would steer well clear.

I would say though that it would have to be some fairly bad pitting to cause a blow because those Lauronas are strong little guns. How did you come across your Benelli Woodcock 20g - Most peeps in UK have never even heard of them in 12g never mind 20g - my dad has one. He absolutely loves it, and it is a cracking little semi-auto but way too short for me however I converted to Benelli after that and bought a the SuperSport. Bet it's lovely in a 20g though! So how bad is this pitting? I have a 40 yr old Yeoman which has had a really hard life with me which became a work gun and is pitted and loose but still shoots ok but really needs tightening up to be safe again. It is outstanding in 20 bore but it wouldn't suit a big man. The pitting is the worst I have ever seen, its a nice side by side. There are maybe 15 -20 pits in the barell and 4-5 are very close together, they all look quite deep. I am still tempted but don't want to blow my jaw off! It all depends how much the Laurona is I suppose and if a gunsmith can do anything with it - is it a sidelock model? The pitting sounds pretty bad, no point in risking injury! The pitting sounds pretty bad, no point in risking injury! It's a boxlock and it fits like a glove! I have put the gun out of mind as I am not willing to take a risk on it. It was 500euro but it was costing me ony 100euro to change due to a trade in.
Gordon R
It's overpriced to start with. You want your head examining for even considering it.

You want your head examining for even considering it. I hear ya The only thing I would say in my defense is that guns are very expensive in Ireland. For example a Yeoman with a lot of work done with a very poor condition stock are going 500 euro. I do look on guntrader and do be envious of the guys in Britain that can get great value on shotguns.
