gixer1
Coming home at 4am this morning and came round a corner to find this fella lying in the road, his head was still up but he had obviously been hit by a car and was in a bad way..... Such a healthy looking buck otherwise and with a great head on him....I put him out of his misery but it always makes me feel sad when I see bucks and does at the roadside... :(

wildfowler.250
Glad you found it. I'd have been doing cartwheels for a week if I saw that when out stalking too! Hope you managed to get something off it
gixer1
That was a kind thing to do how did you dispatch him Quickly .... I would never eat any roadkill personally or feed it to the mutts as you never know the reasoning..... When I approached him he curled his head into his body which actually made me feel very sorry for him as he was obviously hurting bad but just couldn't get himself off the road.... Regards, Gixer
Frenchieboy
As you have said mate "It's a crying shame" but well done for doing the right thing, and for knowing what to do in that situation and doing it properly and humanely! I raise my hat to you Sir, good man!
gixer1
Oddly enough my old man stopped years ago to a roe deer and approached it to move it off the road, the story goes (by his friend in the car) it "sprang" into life just as he put his hands on it and tried to drag him over a barbed wire fence.....the way the witness described it was "I couldn't do anything for laughing as tears of laughter rolled down my face as I watched the roe v's human rodeo and the roe deer tried to kick him" the old man still can't explain why he didn't just let go!!! With this in mind, as I approached this buck I took hold of his antler thinking how healthy looking ge was - and he didn't even try to move his head....
