wildfowler.250
My 3 month old pup is just not getting the idea of not going in the house. We started off by regularly putting her out the back garden and telling her to go when she did her business . When she does go inside, she gets told off and put out immediately after onto the grass and told to go. Biggest problem is she just doesn't make any noise or real indication that she wants out! What's the best way to approach this? We have had 4 dogs before this from puppy stage and haven't had this issue before. Advice is greatly appreciated! wildfowler.250
Thanks for the link She has a crate for sleeping in. Should I block some of it off so that she can only lie in it and no more? I also leave her water at night,(which she tends to spill!). A couple of days ago, there was a fluffy matt on the floor,(similar to what I put in her bed) and she purposely went on that instead of her usual kitchen tiles. Any ideas where I'm going wrong? I found out recently her mother took 6 months to house train
Donnie
Don't give the pup water 1hr before bed and do not put water in her crate. Only block part of her crate off if she's going in her crate. Toilet training is all about guessing when she needs to go. 1st thing on the morning, after a play for 10minutes, after a drink and dinner. When she's not in the crate take her out every 30 min and tell he to go. Time consuming I know but she will get the idea, by the time she is 5 months she will have to go about 1 an hour and this time increases. 3 months is till very young and you will have accidents. Until 5 months in my experience. You can also train to paw the back door just to go out for a treat, this way once she knows she has to go out to go this will give you the sign! Just keep an eye on her and take her when ever you think she will go. One day I took mine out 35 times when he was 3 months!
ferguson_tom
Is she going in the crate? If so be worth making it smaller as like any animal dont like to sleep with they go, if the crates big she will be able to go in the corner and then sleep in the other. Silly question when she goes do you just tell her off then take her outside? If you try clapping loudly then saying NO once sternly she should almost be shocked into stopping then pick her up (without any more telling off)and take her outside and then just give loads of praise when outside even if you carry her through and she pees all over the carpet then she will realise being outside is best as she gets praise. But do not play with her when outside just praise then straight back in. If she carries on possibly try the puppy pads and start by leaving one inside by the door and letting her get used to it then start taking it outside, i haven't tried this but been told works well especially for older dogs. Also might be worth just leaving your back door open with the pad outside.
Donnie
I personally don't think loud noises should be used to tell a pup off, remember the dog will be working with load noises
mart46
As Donnie says - put him out after every meal, play time, training session, and if you want, every hour They'll soon get the hang of it! BenBhoy
yeah putting them out is the key, even if it means getting up couple of times during the night, thats what my dad always did and i've carried it on.

Man-o-woods
Put her outside every 15 - 20 mins. if she want to go or not. if she goes praise her. if she doesnt go have a bit of play time. diong it this way you can evev get her to go in one place ( behind the shed, down the bottom of the garden)just take her to the same spot each time. time consuming I know but well worth the effort.
