Quim My advice is to leave the gun at home,at an RFD, which is what you're supposed to do, when you go away on holiday, and forget about trying to get a days shooting, because its highly unlikely that you'll get some. If you're really lucky, and do get an offer, then you'll have to look for a local RFD to leave the gun at while you're there. Either way, you're going to have to leave it with an RFD. Is this statement correct? I leave my guns in the safe when I am on holiday, am I breaking the law? I think if we are giving out such advice it should be correct. Yes I agree I think Quim will be very lucky to get any shooting when away on holiday, but if you do not ask you definately won't get, but we are in general a nice bunch on PW so who knows? al4x
no you aren't breaking the law Terry, and plenty of people take guns on holiday and certainly shooting breaks. You have to take sensible precautions so not leaving it unattended in one piece in cars etc. Assuming you are camping next to the car I would keep the gun itself in the tent when you are in it with the forend in the car and swap round if you need to leave it for any period of time. Trigger locks and securing it to the car are other options, if you have no shooting planned by the time you leave I would leave it at home

Can you imagine the RFD's taking in guns when we go on holiday, they would probably stop selling guns etc and make more money on the storage and charging for the paperwork involved, plus hopefully getting the correct guns returned. I have at least 4-5 holidays each year, and I have 12 guns, that I believe would be 120 transactions (in and out)just for me, I may have to cancel a holiday to pay for it . bakerboy
4 or 5 holidays a year more like 8 or 10 I do not count anything under 7 days as a holiday It is hard and stressful being a pensioner, and I need the breaks to relax, chill out and rest.
