Ratman2
Have you tried 'system restore'??
Sm0kah
Yeah system restore seems the best option. If you do choose system restore there is an option to restore your computer to a date that you know was working before. But I don't know the command keys lol. When ya comp starts up hold cntrl then press all the number buttons lol
Sm0kah
Only other thing I can think off is your hard disk drive is nackered.

JonD
What operating system is it? If it's XP\Vista or Win 7 provided you have the CD\DVD stick it in the drive and then open a command prompt by going start > run then type cmd then hit return which will open a window with a black background. If Vista or 7 then you will need to right click on the cmd icon and click "run as administrator" At the prompt type sfc /scannow then let it run, this will check all the system files are correct, once complete go to Windows Update and download all updates as some of the files sfc (system file check)replaces will be the original ones so you will get the patched versions updated. Also download and run a scan with Malwarebytes. Jon.

huffhuff
For the 'checkdisk' to be enforced every time, you either have a dodgy hard disk (physically damaged) or the shutdown process isn't working properly so is flagging it for check on reboot. I think you have dirtybits! What version of WIndows is it?
scolopax
thanks for the responses guy, took me numerous attempts over 2 hours to fire up the PC tonight. It is running vista, and is obviously poorly.
