Basic principles are still the same, equipment has definitely moved on since those days but a net, poles, decoys, gun, carts & knife are all you need to form basic setup.

I agree about the basics but would my 35 year-old shiny shell decoys be laughed at by todays modern pigeon used to the luxurious flock decoys... :hmm:

Anyone still use the shineys?...I think I've got about 50 of them somewhere.

Eric.

Just been up in the loft to find the aforementioned book ...time to swot up after 35 year gap but is this book too dated or do the basics still apply?

Eric.

A good read for all.....A few different crops in those days, the fields were much smaller with decent hedges giving much more nesting opportunities; also the seasons didn’t merge in to what they are these days.

His principles have lasted into this modern age, as flight lines and the sharp eye of pigeons keep us all guessing.

I'm glad that we agree the basic principles still stand... :good:

Interesting question...when was the last time you saw a field of clover?...I can remember seeing loads of it as a nipper but none lately and I study the fields closely in my other secret life as a metal detectorist..
