Mungler
An old work friend has been in touch because he has a pest problem. He also wants to start the process of getting his SGC. He lives in an old cottage with about 1.5 acres around it but it is now slap bang in the middle of a growing development (near to Lakeside shopping centre) and his nice gaff has suddenly become surrounded and is now overlooked by Wimpy homes. He has a large open field / paddock at the rear of his house where he keeps some horses and his kids pets. They have been having problems with foxes, rats, maggies and crows. Obviously, I am pleased to hear this. So the question is: 1. what are the limitations on shooting your own land - can he use a shotty and if so on what terms 2. what would people recommend - hush power not to upset the neighbours (provided the answer to question 1 [above] allows) The field / paddock at the back, whilst it is a decent size is completely flat, open and exposed to all neighbours. I was going to start the ball rolling with the S410 this weekend anyway. Not too sure who it was from PWF who advised me not to sell my S410 once I got my SGC, but thanks for the advice - you were right. Mungler
Looks like it's air power only. What's the ricochet potential on say a silenced .410 - just thinking about the rats - the last thing I shot with my S410 was a rat, it was a tricky shot as the rat was on the run at the time and moving. Stopped it and then put 2 more into it. Put gun down, lit fag to congratulate myself on some fine shooting and the ****** got up again. Made me jump out of my skin. Hmmmm determined they are. sutty
Mungler mate, My advice would be, get your mate to get outline planning permision for X amount of houses on his land, sell it to Mr Wimpy, get out and buy a small estate somewere in Scotland with the profit?? But untill he does, it makes sense to forget the shotties and stick with the air power (with the exeption of the fox's), they wont take long to find out it's easier rummaging through bins on the estate than it is trying to catch chickens or W.H.Y. (prob the rats too) Regards Sutty
DaveK
Trap the foxes and release them around Thirsk  Seriously, if foxes are a particular problem, trap or snare them. Get a Hushpower .410 to see them off quietly. The rest of them that you mentioned can be sorted with your air rifle. Dave

Dave Great minds.... am trying to secure a 12g hushpower from a PWF member as we speak however he has gone quiet and so will look to local gun shop on Saturday. Not keen on the idea of snares - too indescriminate. One of my clients has a larson trap and a live maggie in it he is willing to lend. There are plenty of maggies to be had - I wonder if I could sell live maggies on PWF? There was someone looking for one not so long ago. Ferret Master
Hi, I believe selling a live one without a licence is illiegal. FM
