Cartridges

Hi,

Being fairly new to all this as ever I’m seeking the wisdom of you all.

I’d like to know what sort of cartridges you recommend for the different shooting you do.

I’ve been using Eley Blues 7.5 fibre for clays and some 6’s I got given for pigeons. Some people have said to me that eley blues are to expensive for clays?

I’ve read a lot about people saying stay well clear of cheep rubbish, they are not up to the job.

Can you buy cartridges off the web if so is it cheaper?

How much do you lot spend on say 1000 what should I expect to pay? I’m open to suggestions on what to buy. I want to stay away from Hull Cartridge though.

Also, I’m sure this has been done to death but fibre or plastic? What’s the difference?

Thanks

Sloter,

I would say that if you are happy with Eley blues then stick to them. It depends what you class as expensive. I have just paid £120 per 1000 for Express Pro Comp. I like this particular brand and have great confidence in it.

The problem with buying mail order is the cost of postage. Unless you are buying lots of shells (5000+) then it probably isn't worth it.

Plastic wads are preferred by clay shooters as apparently you get better patterns. Personally I do not use fibre wads unless I have to but have not noticed any real difference.

This subject is a real minefield as everyone will have there own opinion.

Cheers

Martin
