Thinkng of goin away on a little shooting trip soon and wanting to borrow my uncles shotgun...

I know I can borrow for 72 hours...does this have to be filled in on my cert and police informed or do I jus take the gun and return it within the 72hours without informing any1 or filling anything in?

Any advice apreciated!

If we do that, do I have to sign it back over to him when I get back although its already on his cert? Or jus inform police I have returned it!?

Who knows when you first borrowed it

I aren't stupid enough to risk losing my cert!

Would it be worth putting on my cert as borrowed just incase, never know what may happen, if car breaks down or train gets delayed I may go over the 72hour stint!? I want it all above bord as I do not want to risk losing my cert or his!

On a side note HE has to wirte it on your ticket and both inform police, when giving it back you can inform police again, if you regularly borrow it belive you can have the gun on both certs and it can be at either location (check with FLO, but a mate had his gun both on his cert and his dads)

But I don't have a cabinet at the moment so couldn't keep it on my certificate. I have never borrowed it before and probably won't again. It's just a 1 off as I want to go away for a few days shooting.

You can have it on your certificate (cabinet isnt a legal requirement certificate is and you will be responsible for securely storing it while in your possesion) and keep it in his cabinet that's what lots of people do (especially kids, students etc etc), however unless all his guns are on your cert you can't have a set of keys or access to the keys for his cabinet. Bonkers i know!

If in doubt ring the FLO they will explain exactly what to do but golden rule never write on your own certificate only other peoples

Thankyou for the reply.

I know I aren't to write on my own cert.

If I do borrow he will put on my cert its been leant and we will both inform police when he lends it and when I return it.

Thanks again.

Thats the best bet, but i would give your FEO a quick call tomorrow just to see where you stand on leaving it on your cert. It may aswell stay on there if you are likely to use it again or even if you have no plans too, it saves putting it on another time
