linny
Yes I got a letter. As well as BASC I'm in a few other organisations, RBLR etc. quite a few of which will occaisionly ask for cash for appeals or projects. Sometimes I contribute, sometimes I don't, depending on how flush I am and how worthwhile I feel the cause is. Like you I suspect, I feel grown up enough to decide who does or doesn't get any of my cash and its nobody's business but mine. If I do respond to this kind of appeal I don't feel smug and if I don't, I don't feel guilty. Its just a letter, just ignore it if you want, what's the big deal? I genuinely don't understand what the fuss is about? its not a fuss at all just a point two of my children(son daughter) are well in to the shooting scene and contribute as i do. grandchildren they are still to young but hopefully will come along

Canis
I had my copy of the letter arrive yesterday. So the BASC is fundraising and ring fencing the money for introducing kids to shooting. And the problem is ? Personally I am a BASC member on the basis that I believe that it represents the best defence against the Anti's of any of the shooting organisations. Clearly its membership is drawn from right across the social spectrum. A proportion of their membership are on the breadline with no spare money for any charitable causes, A proportion have a vast income to whoom a donation is of no consequence not and represented in their membership will be every situation in between. Would the detractors prefer that the membership fee went up instead to fund the work that BASC want to do ?
-Mongrel-
When I joined my 'fowling club I automatically got BASC club membership, however as I was already a full member I had the option of asking them to refund what was left on the full membership. I decided not to on the grounds that the money was already gone, I wasn't missing it and the likes of the BASC need all the help they can get. That's my 'donation' for this year, but otherwise I'd probably have donated something. Most organisations fund raise in this way, what's the problem, you have a choice. onefulham
I also cannot see what the fuss is about, yes another piece of junk mail if you want to see it that way, we all agree children need to be brought into sport, my fear for shooting is that it is becoming a closed shop with the wider public feeling they cannot get involved, then fear comes into them, 'what are these sportsmen and women getting up to?' If we can get more of wider public and especially children involved in shooting, brilliant, if we just leave it to the familys of those already shooting, as important as they are, we will be on a downwards spiral.
