RE-Loading 410

Recommended Posts

Considering reloading 410 cartridges, but do not have any kit, thinking of Lee re-loader or Mec

Can anyone give me expected costs for reloading about 1000 x 410 say 14gram no 9 with 2.5" case and best place to buy the goodies

Are brass cartridge cases a good investment or more hassle than they are worth

Had a shoot at skeet yesterday with new Yidiz 410 O/U and managed only 10 on skeet spread all around the 7 stations so a lot of work to do on it, normally about 21-23 with 12g, bit embarrassed but good fun if I can get cartridge price down to livable costs

.410 is probably the cheapest cartridge to load brass cases are not the way to go as you will have difficulty purchasing the pistol primers without a FAC and the wads dont fit properly as the cases are too thin. You can reload with out a press if you use the same gun all the time. You need a couple of primer punchs and some measures made from cut down .357 cases or even plastic pipe do a search on here I rember seeing some one making there own kiton here . Siarm is the place for components in Italy CX 50 are the primers to use and also use felt wads, plastic are too long for 2.5 inch. Lead shot is cheap at siarm you will need to find a suitable powder in the UK as they dont export powder I use Aliant 2400 and a roll turnover tool also available from siarm

Thanks Guys

What about the primers are they allowed to send those in the post using siarm and do I need a explosive licence for them.

This is what I have calculated for 1000 x 410 about 12-14oz number 9 any silly mistakes

About 14 Kilo lead at about £56

About £116 for cases with primers or about £33 for primers if using recovered cases

About £23 for 1000 plastic wads

So about £195 per 1000 if brought with new cases or £112 if using old cases (imagine used 410 cartridges hard to come by)

The cases seem very expensive part of the equasion

What does the law say about keeping reloading supplies any special requirements

Primers come from Siarm without any additional postal charge and there is no special requirements for component storage unless you have quite a large amount, many times what you will be buying.

If you get 3" cases you can reload them then cut them down to 2 1/2", then down to 2" as the mouth of the cartridge gets too tatty to reuse.

You don't need a press just a rolled turnover tool to close the case. Siarm sell these too.
