lordofthewings
My son has been looking to buy a springer pup, the people selling it are adament that they will not dock the tail. As he intends to wait untill the pup is 12 weeks before collecting it he wants to know when is the latest he should consider docking the tail, Your comments would be appreciated LOTW
WGD
5 days is, I think, the legal limit. Any later than that and it becomes an amputation, done under GA and a vet won't do it without good, medical reason.

arwen3513
if he wants a docked tail, then probably best to find another breeder who docks, an amputated tail takes a long time to heal. jan
vulpicide
If he's going to work the dog go elsewhere and get one from working stock thats already been docked.
straightbarrel
Whether the tail is docked or not, just make sure you are getting a sound enough animal to deal with. No point in having a dog with a lovely docked tail if it can't do the job he's purchased for. Quality of the dog and his or her recent pedigree history; parents/granparents/gt,grandparents is more important. No guarantees even with outstanding pedigree's but at least it gives you a fighting chance of getting a dog at the end of training that is a credit to you, the dog, and the breed. Three to five days max for docking in England (with proof the dog will be working), no docking at all in scotland.
Sco77w
I'd have to go with what the other guys say. Get a pup that has been docked. A friend of mine bought an un-docked Springer and ended up with a big vets bill to have an amputation done when he damaged it. Mine is docked and her pups will be docked within a couple of days (if she is in pup, I'll find out if she's taken next week). Also I think you'll find most people breeding working dogs would have had them docked. The only reason I've bread from mine is that I want a pup from her to work. I've put her with a game keaper friend of mines dog, they both have mostly Badgercourt with some Rytex thrown in giving them a steady (for a ESS) Nature with pleanty of liver markings. Neither dogs are KC registered so the pups won't be expensive but should be good workers or family pets.

Mate, if I were you I would change the middle bit where you have the list of guns etc under each post, the bit about you ESS, baring in mind you will be advertising her pups soon ! Good luck with them.

Sco77w
Mate, if I were you I would change the middle bit where you have the list of guns etc under each post, the bit about you ESS, baring in mind you will be advertising her pups soon ! Good luck with them. She is a great dog and the bit on the signature is only supposed to be a bit of a joke. If she is having pups they will obviously be seen with her by any prospective new owners but saying that if two of you already think that it could do with changing maybe change is due. Maybe I should change my avitar too, we dont want people thinking I neglect the maintenance of my bikes.
