rabbiter
had a strange noise coming from under the bonnet, sounded like the bearings in alternator were knackered(300tdi disco),ordered a new one at my local specialist, put it on,no different, turns out to be water pump,he told me the battery warning light doesnt illuminate and im not getting anything from the charging system, told him ive never had any trouble with it,sometimes it comes on sometimes not, what made him think it was alternator in the first place was that the rev counter started going all over, since hes had alt off and put it back on,the rev counter is fine now,but still no battery warning light, any ideas lads, thanks in advance... webber
There can be issues when fitting none genuine Land Rover alternators. Young webber knows the details, I'll ask him when he comes around. webber

garygreengrass
Could be the bulb in the warning light, as for the rev counter it is worked by the single wire with the spade end on it connected to the back of the alternator which may have been dirty.
