good afternoon all round

Got ready yesterday to go for the first rough shoot my dad and i have been working on all summer. we have put feeders out put small stips of musted crop around 2 small spinnies, put barley in the pond up every other night and done some serious foxing. Weve taken 52 foxes since feb this year. With all the work done we were ready for a good old walk round. There were 4 of us with 2 dogs to walk the woods and the crops out so all was covered.

we stated on the thick hedges leading to the wood with myself one side and my dad the other and my two friends spread out inline next to my dad in the tall rape field, hoping to flush them or run them down to the cover crops, as we just got going we flushed an early cock bird which my friend folded nicely with a single shot.

half way down the hedge we could see the birds running on through the rape, so we were getting a bit giddy.

we got to the cover crop and all hell broke loose, there were pheasants everywere getting up and flying straight over the spinney.

we should of stood someone round the back of the spinney at the begining, they would have had some brilliant shooting.anyway with only a few birds down out of a good 30+ we were more than happy. we stood and had a bit of a talk how best to walk the spinney through.

What we ended up doing was.I stood at the very end of the spiney around 40 yards out into the field waiting for birds to fly forward. friend no 1 walked on side friend no 2 walked the other and my dad in the middle with the dogs.

all 3 of them walked the spinney through slowly.

all i could hear was guns going off and stop whistle blowing, thought i was in the wrong place untill i heard my dad shout "FORWARD"

i was well ready for 2 cock birds flying at the top of some tall willows, Fantastic stuff.

birds were also braking from the sides of the spinney so plenty of shooting for both my friends,

they nearly walked it through when 2 roe deer ran out, i watched them run right across the field then my dad shouted "FOX" i turned round and there he was running flat out maybe 30yards away from me, i bowled him over in 1.

Thats the one that we missed one night while lamping and we havent been able to get near him since. Great stuff and well chuffed.

the spinney was walked now so it was round to the pond.

What we do at the pond is stand each gun at the back side of some trees like in a triangle shape a good 30 yards bk from the pond and one of us walks to the pond and gets the ducks up but cannot shoot, that was my job. with everyone ready i walked slowly with the dogs upto the pond. up they went, must of been a good 20 or so mallard on with a few teal. they went high and bended right round each gun making brilliant testing shots,my dad dropped two and each of my mates dropped one each. another fantastic result.

here's a pic of the fox i shot and the bag at the end of the day.
