ChrisAsh
On clay Shooter in Nov issue they give a price for new Eley 410 trax 2.5 inch cartridges at £154 per thousand, rang up three dealers on very big specialist cartridge place and all quoted atbout £225 per thousand for same cartridge. Now assuming vat was not added on the clay shooter price as a sign of goodwill to them that still leaves a good mark-up on a thousand If this mark-up applies to all cartridges it makes a mockery of all the talk of " we only make a few pence on cartridges" or has someone got the prices wrong

TaxiDriver
There's another post somewhere here on PW, to the effect that someone had phoned Eley and was told that the magazine has gotten the prices wrong and would be printing a correction to the article in the next issue of the magazine. Summat along those lines anyways.
Hamster
My guess is something along the lines of: This is the MD of Hull/Express/Gamebore/RC, put me through to your top man (Eley) I'm calling from Barbados, so I'll be brief, someone has just called and told me about a stupid article where you lot are selling 410 shells at only 100% above manufacturing costs. Have you lost your bloody mind? Two can play that game and I'll have you know we'll all lose in the end. I haven't got time to argue, fix the problem or I'll bring out shells at £120 quid a thou, the rest will follow and before you know it we'll have to own up to the fact we've been ripping the arrrse out of it with the lead price bullll and go back to making normal money. Short sweet meeting later, problem is solved by apology in press informing unwashed masses of a typo.
