mattslaptop247
Right guys, I hope you can settle a long running argument for me. My father in law has just bought an enfield 3 band rifle musket. Very kindly someone off here offered to re do the barrel. After a good scrub up it turned out they were Damascus. They have been browned, which I personally think is the right choice. Now, the in law is adamant they should be blued. Can anyone settle this for me with a definitive answer?! M.I.A
I think its a case of preference, browned or blued. I prefer browned damascus on early guns
Vince Green
The originals were blued. what you have is not damascus it is laminate and represents a private puchase model of which there were many. Don't mess with the finish it nearly always detracts from the value. It could have greater historical interest eg supplied to the CSA during the American Civil War. Does it have any stamps or engravings? Edited November 13, 2011 by Vince Green
