chrisjpainter
a few months ago i got myself an AAS510 and love it dearly; except that it still seems to give a bit of a crack when firing and would like to see if i can tone it down a notch or two. Currently i have a Weihrauch silencer, was wondering whether there'd be any advantage in getting the AA silencer designer for the 510, or is it worth getting something a lot better - if there is such a thing! Gnome of the Woods
HW is about as good as it gets, most of the noise you hear is from the action. Which is imperceptible beyond about 15 yds when the noise of the pellet flight takes over. A+M Gunsmiths do the Twink Mk2 which is arguably better and weighs in at about £
chrisjpainter
Yeah i was wondering at what ranger the noise is audible, i do a lot of shooting in and around barns, particularly from inside sheds where for me inside, it can echo a bit! Gnome of the Woods
To be honest the noise of the pellet flight and impact will scare quarry more than the action. Many have tried but there is no real way of quietening the action down.
Iced Tiger
I've got the AA silencer fitted to my 510, seems quite enough out in the field. I think the HW silencer is just as good as the AA one or as Gnome says slightly better.
chrisjpainter
Well, thanks all! this seems to have covered what i needed to know! saves me a bit of cash at any rate! you can, according to top gear (the source of all wisdom) download an app that is a decibel measurer so i might download that and see just how loud it actually is. id on't know how or why that would help as i'll just end up with a number and nothing to compare it to, but it might be fun to find out! peek-at
I have the S410 SL extra FAC and it also had a bit of a crack until I fitted a Weirauch silencer which has helped but makes it very long. You obviously hear the action and I assume it is much louder for the shooter than the rabbit but I still fancy testing it out for myself. I'm thinking of getting a mate to fire a few down range whilst I stand 20-30 yards off to the side, just to hear it for myself.
