Browning 425 clay hunter
Hi all guys and gals. Had my first shotgun for a week now and my shooting buddy showed me a way of removing some of the marks from the stock with an damp tea towel and an iron. It's working really well and most of them have completely gone. Next step for me ive been advised to use some wire wool to take the stock back a bit as the previous owner had a protective cover that went about 4" up the stock and has left a small line where the cover stopped. It's not massively noticeable but I have the time to sort it out but not the knowledge. I then want to oil the stock but not sure what oil to use and if there is any do's or dont's or any special cloths to apply it with. As I don't want to mess it up I thought I would seek advice first before I jump in feet first. Thanks in advance for all replies and advice
welshwarrior
There is a bit on this in the Craft DiY section I liked Napier London Gun Finish for my old 410, but I had my best gun done by a pro and it's much better than I could do. Mike525steel
I don't know a massive amount about this subject but I will give you one warning When oiling your stock you will hear people telling you to apply oil with you finger.... This is good advice but make sure your hands are spotless as a lot of these stock oils will remove any dirt fro. Your fingers and straight into the wood. And once it is In you will struggle like hell to get it out. Ive seen this on a couple of occasions and your lovely gun stock can look like you've given it a cheap b&q wood stain job...
