ARGENTINAS´PIGEONS
Hi, I´m Ramniro de las Carreras a pigeon hunting outfitter in San Luis Argentina. I want to share with UK hunters some experiences. For example when I started this business 10 years ago everybody hunted with 12 ga. Now a days I would say 80% of our visitors shoot with 20 ga and it works perfectly, the same than 12 ga and of course is more light than 12. Even we have hunters shooting pigeons with 28 ga. I´m intereted to know what´s your experience about guns and pigeon hunt.
shootnfish
the best gun for pigeon shooting is one that goes bang when you pull the trigger. joking aside i think it doesnt matter as long as they are in range and its pointed in the right place, and a guns only as good as the person useing it as long as it fits. i use a 12g not because ithink its better than others just thats all i have ever used. HDAV
Are 20 cartridges cheaper than 12 in Argentina ? What loads and shot size do you use? Also felt or plastic wads?
chris t
I hear what you say and agree. There are lots of 20g shooters in the UK. However I'm unlikely to become one of them anytime soon. Maybe when older and can't carry a 12 as easy. 12G has the cheapest cartridges available and the widest selection and the most gun choice. It's a no brainer for me for this reason. Chris Edited November 24, 2011 by chris t
dougall
I guess for those going to shoot 1000+ cartridges a day..which can happen dove hunting a semi has its place. 20g v 12g debate will last forever, they are both fit for purpose.I guess lifting a gun and shooting all day makes a 20g more appealing, countered by the possible recoil issues if pushing too much Lead up them.. 12g remain most popular in UK as cartridges are cheaper,it is the 'standard' shotgun. Most shooters end up with a 20 bore at some point,in a hide typically a bit lighter/more nimble.
