KennyB
hi shawn, as long as you have a valid licence and have had a medical if that applies to you, you can drive on grandfathers rights till 2014,If you intend to drive after 2014 you will have to take the cpc course which comprises of 5 modules totaling 35 hours over 5 years, As we are approaching 2012 you will have to sit these before 2014.The course is based on a no pass no fail thing where you attend and watch a few videos and do some written tests very boring, I am doing module 3 next Wednesday thru my company,As you are only doing agency work you've got to ask yourself be worth doing it or just do it till 2014 hope this makes sense to you atb kenny
shawn9914
what happens if i dont do it by 2014 will i loose my HGV licence or can i do the cpc after 2014 if i decide i need to drive a truck again cheers shawn
KennyB
technically yes it will be suspended as you will not have done the cpc,As for taking it after 2014 i don't honestly know, I would imagine if you take it after will will be able to drive again. daz2202
I think that after 2014 cpc becomes a pass or fail situation. And yes you will need to keep up the hours on tacho to keep. Just let mine go now as most of our work can be done in 7.5t and there is very little red tape
KennyB
Its a complete rip off can't really see the point in it only to extract more money out of you, H&S gone a bit OTT now
Chris B123
Shawn, Thanks for pointing that out, Like you I have a class one (30yrs) and I have kept it up thinking it is something to fall back on.I worked for Ralph Davies for ten years, I am sure our paths would have crossed somewhere. nosmoking
Hi Shawn. I stopped driving HGV's a few years ago (continental like yourself, man don't I miss it!) and let it lapse. A call to DVLA told me that as long as I passed a medical it would be reinstated. This was a few years ago so the rules may have changed. My advice would be to give DVLA a call.
