Japanese water stones

I have just bought a 1000/6000 grit combination Japanese water stone and nagura stone as an early Christmas present. I watched a few videos on you tube and had a play. Wow! I've messed about with various oils stones, diamond sharpeners and a Lansky sharpener over the years and had just about acceptable results, but nothing comparable to this. I'm really chuffed with it. I'm sure I'll get even better with practice, but I've just taken a couple of quite blunt knives to absolutely razor edged, shaving sharp in no time at all. Well chuffed

For me yes, as they are easier to get a really good edge with than anything else I've tried. They are dear if you buy a few different ones, but the 1000/6000 combo I've got is versatile enough to do everything and looks like it will last forever. Axminster tool seem to have the best prices.
