Alternator belt on a disco 1

serpintine belt on a discovery 1 300tdi

 

 

how do i change/take off the serpintine alternator etc belt on my 96 plate 300tdi .

 

i cant see any way it comes off , do i need to take the cooling fan off or the cowl from the radiator or both

 

is there a how to guide anywhere

you need to take the presher off the tensioner by puting a spanner on the tensioner bolt and lifting the tensioner , its spring loaded, i think the thred is left handed, sorry about the spelling, hope this helps,its a 5 min job :good:

 

 

As above its 15mm spanner pull it anticlockwise and remove the belt, bit tricky to get past the fan but doable.

rather than a spanner use a socket, with a long bar,

 

and push the belt off the pully, once its off you can thread the new belt before pulling the adjuster,

 

make sure you clean the pullys to get the old bits of rubber out, or it will squeal.

heres another question - if my 96 tdi300 discovery as the original alternator , will it be 65 amp or 100 amp

if its 65 is there any advantage upgrading it to 100.

i am replacing it any way as its not charging battery and rev counters dead
