Nearly blown away today

Well what an interesting day today, my shooting partner is back from an overseas posting so we have been itching to get out, decided to see if there were any pigeons on our rape fields, On the drive down the A31 was closed due to a tree being blown over so had a major detour which was interesting, no sat nav or maps in the landy, arrived and set up in a howling gale, had to secure the hide with guide ropes and pegs all around, the bouncers I put out started to loose their wings and then were blown out of the poles, the foam wings are expensive so the two of us were running around chasing them all over the field, eventually gave up and took them down its the first time its been that windy that I havnt been able to use them.

In the hide and my partner gets his Hatstand out to find it completely jammed, he had put it away before his secondment, uncleaned, and it was solid, so we stripped it down, luckily had some oil and cut the pockets off his trousers for rags and after a field strip and clean managed to get it working, he wont do that again.

had a few pigeons passing the decoys like Exocet missiles, and managed to get two to put out as flappers. they worked well until a buzzard came in and took one right in front of us, amazing to see but we had to go and move him on as he sat on it and stated his dinner in the middle of our pattern.

Then a pigeon appeared two feet above the hide and landed in the bush no more than 4 feet above us. we looked at it, it looked at us and flew off before either of us could get our act together, we just fell about laughing.

Managed six pigeons and a crow over 2 hours between 2 and 4pm.

Great fun, tomorrow its a bit of stalking
