stubby
just watching my crayfish video's, boiling etc, and thinking about this years (unplanned as yet) crayfish catching comp, I thought it might be fun to take the boiler with us, so we could have a crayfish munch whilst catching them, of course this would mean, no time to purge them, but thinking about it, is it really neccesary, I mean, if we britains were like the other countries, that break the tail off, but then suck the yellow fluid (called crayfish butter, which is supposed to taste better than tails) from the body (not for me thanks )then I could see a reason to purge the body of it's contents, but as we only eat the tails, after removing the black tract (intestine) thus only leaving meat, is purging a waste of time we could take some clean water with us, for boiling and washing the crays in, and simply cook up by the side of the river, a nice dipping sauce or two, sandwiches with lettuce and black pepper, could even offer a few to all those passer-by's that always stop to chat Edited January 19, 2012 by stubby
holly
if only after the tail meat i would say purging is a waste of time
Billy.
Unless you enjoy the gritty bite of the full intestine of a crayfish, I would advise purging. Yes, removing the intestine would work, but it's still good to let them have a purge in something other than the dirty water of the local river.. Edited January 20, 2012 by Billy. stubby
but it's still good to let them have a purge in something other than the dirty water of the local river.. that's why I said taking some fresh water along, to wash them through, watching american utube clips, they dont purge for days, just wash through, boil, eat
hendersons
Eho that comes to work said we had to purge them for at least 24 hours before eating as you don't know if they have consumed anything that could be toxic to us. Having said that at home I just take the poo pipe out and chow down. Nick
