I don't live in South/West Wales, but the easy answer as to where to look for your pigeon shooting is, within a distance from your home that you are prepared to travel.

Some of the members here travel quite long round trips for their shooting, others have it on their doorsteps.

Map out your area and then start knocking on doors, its about the only thing that works.

Hopefully, someone from your area may have more specific advice. :good:

there are are some good decoying possibilities in south wales dont know much about west wales i am from south wales (cardiff), and have built up some very good farms over the last 20 years, just by by knocking on doors WHEN THE PIGEONS ARE DOING DAMAGE, not any other time the farmers are not under any pressure mostly winter barley and winter wheat and BEANS!which is big draw ,but i also travel to hereford at least twice maybe three times aweek where i have also some land to shoot on, you must be prepared to travel, your best bet is to have a look at the farming in your area ie- crops now is agood time start looking for some laid winter barley if there are pigeons in your area they will find it in time and then aproach the farmer :) ( i gained an extra 6000 acres this year just by knocking on doors in the winter and shooting birds on winter rape and freezing to death for sometimes 5 birds) good luck mate you can pm if you want a chat stuy

Thanks for your replies.

I found somewhere quite close to me last night where pigeons were feeding on a newly drilled field....approached the farmer (who was friendly enough) only to be told that the farm had been designated as some kind of conservation area so no shooting is allowed...........or was he giving me a load of old flannel  On the other hand.....if I was a farmer and a complete stranger approached me I think I would have some reservations as well

The Farmer is probably speaking the truth.

In my experience they don't need to give elaborate excuses to say "No".

"Someone already shoots the pigeons", is the most common.

"I don't allow any shooting", is another good one.

Keep making contacts and it will pay dividends in the end.

All good advice. I have had some good ad hoc shooting by knocking on doors when pigeons are ravaging the crops (no permanent permission though  ). I made up some cards and leave one every time I knock on a door.......just in case they ever need someone quick. Never had a call back yet but I'm still hoping.
