.philmypower.
Hi guys I'm currently working on my wife to let me have a sprocker spaniel of paul223 as his springer bitch has been with another mates working cocker and are due very soon. My question is how do you rate these dogs? What should I expect from one? Do any of you pw members have one? Also any pics of what they would look like as I've never seen one. Thank you for your time, look forward to reading your responses
Ian1513
Hi, I have a 7 month old Sprocker pup, he's a great little dog and a very quick learner. He's trained to whistle, walks to heel, retrieves to hand and has just started quartering.I train mine with both Springers and Cockers present and i'd say he's definately more like a Springer in attitude, i guess though it could easily work the other way. Either way they are great dogs to own and would have another anyday of the week.

Ian1513
I know some people who swear Spaniels are all the same and its how you develop the bond in the first few weeks thats the most important. Hope you decide to take the chance on one, you'l not regret it.

WGD
A "sprocker" is neither a springer nor a cocker nor is it a breed in its own right. The cross however is from two breeds who work in almost exactly the same way (without splitting hairs about style, pattern etc) so you have a spaniel to train. Whether it will demonstrate traits better known in cockers or springers is unknown until the dog matures, but it's function is to hunt, flush and retrieve game like any other spaniel - so as with any dog you train it accordingly depending on the nature of the dog, not depending on the nature of any particular breed characteristics.
