PotHunter96
hi all for my gcse in product design i thought it would be a good idea to make a new stock for my webley vulcan air rifle and i was thinking of making it out of hard maple. my teacher thinks it is a good idea and i was going to get the measurments at home then detatch the stock and take it to school just in case i missed anything.i need to know i cant seem to find a good answer, how much for a block of hard maple approximatley and also any other advice you can give to persuade or dissuade me from making one. my teacher thinks it is a good idea???thanks

edr
I did my GCSEs last year, so started making a stock for a hw100= never again. :') It was fine until you tried to inlet the action without the gun there, it gets impossible -.- we tried everything at school including cad/cam to laser it out and then i just gave in. It might have been doable but the effort required for the possibility of it being marked down by an anti-shooting examiner was too much! So me and a mate just bodged a rotary decoy and a flapper from a bit of mild steel/wooden base and a motor with a car battery. Just get your teacher on side and see what they say? FalconFN
A decent piece of stable, kiln dried wood can be a bit pricey, and it would be very easy to take too much off and ruin it. I like the idea and it could work very well but one nagging doubt I have would be the need to check it for fit against the action, and there's no way you'll be allowed to take it to school. It's always good to be ambitious and to try different things (I made a full sized land-yacht for my CDT GCSE) but don't end up out of pocked and out of time if things go wrong. Good luck with it. jacksdad
Strip the rifle and just take the empty action in!
