while out shooting on saturday with a group of friends, my springer Jack was working some ground when he let out a piercing howl and collapsed in a heap crying in pain, i rushed over to him to find what was wrong thinking he was tangled in something but was not, on examination it was clear his front left leg was broken.we got him to the vets where he was xrayed and learned that his elbow was fractued quite badly. Our vet would have to send him to a specialist surgeon with no guarentee of succesful outcome, after reading on the subject via the net most dogs suffer lamness and arthritis and taking into account he was already showing lamness in his right leg we decided to put him to sleep, the vet saying it was for the best.He was a lovely dog and will be sadly missed, not having reached 4 years old.Apparently these breaks can just occur while working and probably a inherited condition. Has anyone else experienced similar. Needless to say i am without companion and will be looking for a puppy if anyone knows of good litter.
