Cleaning chequering

Picked up my new to me 32" MK38 today,as it's an older gun i want to clean it up a bit,I will eventually send to Sascha for a re oil but for now i want to clean some crud out from the chequer.I was thinkin a stiff toothbrush but have no idea what to brush on with it.Wot do you recommend, i would like to start at gentle and work from there.

Methylated spirit small bronze brush, but dont over do it ask your self a question have you ever seen pledge in a gunsmiths workshop :no: :no: :no: :no:

As used on shoes, spirt might not be required. Mask off surounding woodwork if its still tidy and use a little elbow grease :good:
