Tomm Posted February 29, 2012 Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 hello, on one of my permissions we have a very bad crow problem. i will be getting my hmr in a few weeks, i was wondering about the legality and the effectiveness of using a deal lamb or calf etc as bait then shooting them from a high point with a hmr to guarantee a safe shot and back stop? would having some plastic crow decoys work? Scully Posted February 29, 2012 Report Share Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) I'm not sure,but I think landowners can be prosecuted for knowingly leaving a livestock carcass rotting in a field,let alone using one as a decoy. Rabbits work well though,but you would have more success with a shotgun;it will be a long laborious process with a rifle I would think. Tom It will attract the foxes after you go home! Just knock over a few rabbits, freeze them and drop them out as you want, the crows won’t be bothered the rabbit is frozen as you will have killed it before it makes its mind up.
