paulr5604
Well today was my first attempt at decoying. Got there a bit late at about 11 quick chat to the farmer then drove to the field that had started his spring drilling on. As i walked up there were about 50 woodies soon flew off when they saw me. Set my hide up and then put the decoys out on a classic horseshoe pattern then got settled into the hide. An hour passed with nothing then three came into the decoys missed all three of them. Another two hours pass and nothing then one more came in but missed that aswell. but at least i had 3-4 hours to myself just enjoying the peace and quiet. .philmypower.
Good on you. Don't beat yourself up about the result. It's all a learning curve and even the most experienced person has bad days. Glad you enjoyed yourself Keep it up
The Jackson
Very similar myself yesterday. Set up early, with my new magnet from the shooting show. Nothing for about two hours. They were flying but just not coming in. Then a bloody jack Russell turned up from another local and just wouldn't leave us alone. Birds were defiantly not going to come in with him about. Just as we were packing up our farmer turns up, which he was well chuffed that we were out. Anyway we moved fields, away from the dog. About a mile away. Set up again, it took about an hour but then they started to come in mid afternoon ish. Learnt some good lessons yesterday, magnet worked a treat and moving field. Like you said though even if I hadn't of shot anything, it was nice to be outside having some time to myself, well with my best mate anyway

smig4373
It doesnt take many days like that to really start honing your field craft skills...I soon got fed up with blanking for 3/4 sometimes 6 hrs in the hide...If there are birds flying around and not committing then change your pattern...Make sure your hide is up to scratch and SIT STILL.....Im sure you'll soon be plucking them out the sky soon... Good luck and keep at it... :good: Edited March 10, 2012 by smig4373
