Cranfield
Congratulations on a nice fish. You do realise, that having caught a 13lb carp on your first trip, it could be all down hill from now on. B) The type of gear you will need for carp fishing, depends on the type of fishing you will be doing and where. People write very long books on this subject. Will you be fishing day ticket carp lakes (with good stocks of fish), or larger Club type lakes (larger, but fewer fish) ? What tackle were you using when you caught the 13lber ? Rob G
I have been carpfishing for 10yrs.It can be exspensive all depends how you want to do it,if you arent going very often check out www.badgerclassics.com there tackle isnt the best but good enough to get started wouldnt bother with there bait.go to your local tackle shop and get one of the better known baits (nash, mistral, rod hutchinson).I go on www.carp forum .co.uk there are a lot of top carp anglers on there well worth a look

Cranfield
To be flexible in your approach, I would suggest a 12ft, 1&1/2lb (1.5lb TC) test curve rod. You can bottom fish, float fish ,or surface fish with that choice. It will allow you to enjoy the smaller fish and still land a 20+lber. I would also step up my line to 10 or 12lb breaking strain. Any medium sized fixed spool reel should be adequate. Its difficult to buy a bad one , these days. Check out the Okuma range, they are good quality and a good price. If you have a few shillings, go for the Shimano baitrunners. It would be a good idea to have an unhooking mat. These can be cheap to buy, if you look around. Another option is a babys changing mat, or just get a piece of foam and cover it with waterproof material. Most carp waters insist you have one. Good luck, I think you are going to enjoy yourself.
