Rupert
My Wife and i took to clays together in 2009 and although keen the weight and fatigue were a killer for her(a calculator was her previous best)so as others have said we stood in the living room and did slow mounts and when mounted she would say left of right to indicate which corner of the room we would swing to,started with a few and built up slow,i dont suppose it did me any harm either.I would also carry the bag with the shells etc in,in a very short time she could do 100 dtl and 100 sporting back to back and carry her own tackle. Then she set about thrashing me on 95% of the scorecards we put in lol,im a laughing stock at our local club

Thunderbird
but the key to low recoil, is the cartridge. I'd say gun weight : cartridge balance. And gun mount, not to be underestimated
