Hi all a chap i was chatting to a bloke i workwork with today and mentioned i shot. He told me he had a old air pistol if i was interested in it.

Now i don't know a thing about air pistols. So am after any thoughts or opinions on it. And any thoughts on possible value.

Its a Panther R 072 pistol. It appears to be in fantastic condition for its age. He seems to thinks its approx 40 years old. He bought it from new.

I came across this quote this morning.

"This Italian made pistol has been sold under many different names and numbers depending on who imported it at the time, such as R072, Hotshot, Panther, Panther Deluxe. This example is in boxed and near new condition, but is still in truth not much of a pistol! We believe it to be the second lowest quality air pistol ever made. It is complete and working (at the moment) but feels like it may give up the ghost at any moment as this was a pistol “best never used!!!” One grip screw has been replaced and on this occasion results in an increase of value as the original screws were rubbish. The grip is not cracked at all which we think is an indication its never really been used. It has the characteristic “creek” noise. If you are looking for a quality target pistol, please look elsewhere!!!"

I'm pretty sure that these, along with the cheaper ro71 model, we're distributed by Sussex armoury in the 1970's. My friend had one but the cast trigger sear snapped where the ball bearing locates and I don't think he was able to mend it or get a spare part, even back then when they were still being sold new. Looked impressive but it's performance didn't make the grade really. :/

I think the pistol this reference refers to sold for around £50 if that helps
