I managed to reply to an add off here about an fc lease so i spoke to a few guys off here who are in the lease and i was accepted in.

I hadnt done an fc skills test before so i had to book that which was on fri morning . I met the ranger and we headed off to the range ,i was soon put at ease as we got on well and i passed the test with no hiccups .Yippee off to the lease to meet steve who runs the syndicate. I had a few hours to kill so was in no rush and i had realised i had left the dog food at home headed off in search of food for him found a small village which had some ,back to the ground to wait. a phone call and steve was 30 mins away. we met up and had a good chat i already had a map so had studied the boundry and was given an option of where i wanted to stalk. I didnt want to go too far as i wanted to be shown the rest of the boundrys on sat so opted for a stalk close by i quickly got my gear on wind was good and loaded up and set off. now the track was crushed rock and very noisey so as quite as i could carried on till i got to a good bit of ground to glass no signs so carried on round a corner i came face to face with a barrel of a doe who was fit to pop she lifted her head and eyes nearly popped out at the sight of me,(i think it was the beard). she leapt off into the undergrowth .

It amazes me how a doe that is ready to give birth can leap off so gracefully in that condition.Any way good sign my first sight of a deer on forestry ground ,what a bonus . we headed off carefully again as we rounded the next corner three does and a buck the buck slipped gently into the trees unaware of me and the dog (******) with instinct i had already set my sticks with rifle ontop incase he would emerge back out . two of the does where heading across the track to follow the buck but the last one was still feeding as it looked up bonus point it was a young buck .By this point tommy is shaking with exitement and looking at me as if to say why is it still standing he let out a squeek abd the buck looked straight at him . I slowley flicked the safety and he was rolling down the hill into a gully result first buck of the season and on fc ground . Well to say i was pleased was an understatement . As we aproached i got a text from steve ,i heard a shot so replyed with yep first buck in the bag .

A gralloch and tommy happy having found his kidney we set off again but not seeing anything else. we headed off back and met up with steve and was shown the way to the loch i was camping at just before i dropped him off spoke about a morning stalk and agreed to meet up after . set up camp and a fresh roes liver inside some nice bapps for tea and a glass of red by the side of one of the lochs watching browns rising was an exellent end to the first night.

The next morning headed off on an easier road to stalk and came across another doe feeding watched her for a while but no buck so headed off in search once more. this time was unsuccessfull but still happy and got to see more of the ground which has two really nice valleys which im sure are going to produce deer and some lovely hidden glades where they can couch up in the sun. sat afternoon we headed off in the van to be shown the boundry and see all the ground saw a few more does while driving and another buck but these dont hang around for a second like the deer i have at home.

Sunday morning ,last stalk so off again straight away another doe browsing in the sun but no buck in toe let her be in peace . we headed out to an edge of re gen and two more does where on the edge of the forest as i got to a point to glass there was a nice 6 point buck 72 yrds i didnt set my sticks for fear of making a noise i just used it as a mono pod and as i flicked off the safety i gently squeezed the trigger and my sticks sank into the ground but it was too late i had fired the buck transfixed on my position without a flinch or reaction it was a clear miss. I cycled the bolt but he was off into the forrest. i gave it a while and headed out to the strike point no sign of blood or pins we carried on looking where it entered the forrest it was dense with spruce no signs on that either i was satisfied i had definately missed but absolutely gutted with myself for missing what was an easy shot and a lesson learned to make sure i have set myself up and not hurried for a shot. well i think i have bored you to death with my ramblings so heres some pics and just for anyone looking for a lease fc ground might still have deer atb wayne.ps thanks to everyone for the invite and to steve for showing me around and see you all soon.
