The ACME ones do take practice and you have to call through them like you are sort of choking, coughing and retching all at the same time.

The bloke I shoot with does it really well.

However, when I am alone (just with my camera) I bought an electronic caller from a US webby - for the PWF nonsense brigade this is for photographic purposes only of course.

I have a spare electronic caller and was going to put it on ebay in the next week or so.

I used to have a crow call before i lost it, i believe it may have been the acme one, i found once i'd learnt how to use it properley it was brilliant at bringing in crows from a distance espcially if i had some decoys out for them to see as well. I found the best way to use it was to cup your hand round the bottom of it you could then alter the pitch or tone of the call by how tightly you had your hand around it untill you get the desired call.

I have a couple of crow calls and are very effective. One is a Tex Wirtz Magic Tone Deluxe Crow Call in Cocobola Wood with brass reeds circa 1950's

The other is a Bill Harper Crow Call same again in crafted wood.

IMO these type of calls are the best. Electronic gadgets are a complete waste of time. You can't just switch the machine on and expect to use the same crow call all day long with effect

Buy the Jerry (thecowman) Tomlinson DVD and see how the pro calls them into a pecan trees
