St. George's Mushrooms

Keep your eyes peeled for St. George's mushrooms in woodland on roadside hedges. They are communal so if you cut the stem rather than uproot it you should be able to go back and harvest some more.

Hmm. A circle of mushrooms that look like those appears every year on my top "lawn" in late April into May. I've never bothered with them, but from your post I suppose they must be St Georges. Is there anything else they could be - don't want to wake up dead!

So far I've stuck to picking ceps.

The only one you could confuse it with has pink or brownish gills and can have red flecks in the cap. If the gills and stem are both white it will be a St. George's at this time of year.
