twitchynik Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 They're good but you need to set it up so the fox can only go at the bite bar from the front. Check the paste (or whatever you're using as bait) isn't being licked off by a cat. Also check the sensitivity of the bite bar - we found using a trailcam that foxes were very cautious with the bait, almost nibbling it. AndyCM Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 (edited) A bit of rabbit fur wrapped over some stinky paste bait means they can't nibble / lick it off. They'll have to bite & pull, just what you want. Using something to tie the rabbit wrap around the bite piece will help & I agree with the front approach only. The base of a large tree or into a bank with only front access will do well. Did you weather the stuff before setting & keep human scent off the whole area? Not used one myself but seen one set in a wood, impressive bit of kit but if the main wire gets tangled up on a catch (like snares) it can work out at £25 a catch.
