apache
It won't be too bad. They are just checking you are sane and having a chat. If you are asking for anything controversial then maybe a copy of the relevant firearms guidance. It will be fine, 0.2% refused!
artschool
just make sure you know your stuff regards gun safety.
bedwards1966
They'll run through some questions about yourself to check you aren't a lunatic that's dangerous to anybody. They'll ask some simple questions about gun safety, such as how far will the bullets travel (I'd say 2 miles for the .22lr and 3 miles for the .22 Hornet, they'll probably say less but it's best to overdo it). What do you do if someone hands you a slip containing a gun, obviously treat it as loaded and check it's empty. They'll run through your application if there are any changes to make, they'll tell you about the paperwork side of things such as notifying them when you buy guns or ammo. They'll tell you about the storage of them (don't let them force you into storing the rifle bolts separate unless you want to, there is no requirement to). They'll want to know of your previous experience with rifles, they may also contact people you've been out shooting with or your referees. Most of the interview is actually spent listening to what they have to say, it's hard to go wrong and you aren't expected to know everything. Just listen (they can have good advice) and don't be afraid to ask questions. Most people suggest having tea and biscuits available too! turbo33
I have put in for my first FAC application. The FEO came out 7 working days later Bang on time, really helpful and genuine chap. I was not sure what to expect. Interview was very relaxed, but an hour and a half long. We discussed all manner of shooting related subjects including safety over a coffee Then the formalities were: To show I had good reason for applying for: FAC Air/ .22rf/ .17hmr. ( WISE NOT TO PRODUCE A SHOPPING LIST) I produced my signed permission forms showing the verification of vermin control, with copies for him. ( GOOD MOVE) He was very pleased to see I am a BASC member and noted my membership number ( VERY GOOD IDEA ). I put in for 200 to buy and 400 to keep in both calibres. (I THINK IT IS A GOOD MOVE NOT TO GO OVER THE TOP) We Discussed that, and he seemed to happy that was the right amount. He checked the gun cabinet was bolted to the wall,bs approved and in a suitable location. We went through the serial numbers of the shotguns as I am applying for a coterminious certificate. And that was pretty much it. I am sure if there are complications in someones history, it would be more in intensive. I asked a few questions that I had made notes of and he shook my hand and went on his way. To summarise, I would say be yourself, he will be no fool. Be sure about your safety, don't ask for firearms you haven't a use for, either amount or calibre, be insured, make sure the cabinet is sorted, and ask any questions you want help with. Good luck, hope it all works out well. ATB T33

JDsniper
Is it a good ideas to have a letter off my uncle saying he has suppervised me on his land with his .22lr and says I am a safe shot also the name of the person that agreed to mentor me Edited April 22, 2012 by JDsniper
sixhills 69
A letter won't hurt it shows that someone else is willing to show you the ropes i can not see any reasons why a 22 hornet should not be passed on first application as long has the land is cleared and you have the land owners permission, All you need to do is show reason. search google maps or OS maps and know back stops and public footpaths ect. My interview took about 20 mins i told him the facts no ---- ---- they are not all stupid. Just be honest i have found that works and then you have nothing to hide or get tripped up on. Good Luck
