stan68
Hi to all Im thinking of trying these rounds through my tikka t3 varmint. Does anybody else use this ammo? I plan to use it for fox and the occasional head/neck shot roe/muntjack thanks dave
Scully
I use Norma 75grn jacketed soft-points through my .243 for deer,as I like the 'punch' the solid head gives, and would be reluctant to use a head which is designed to fragment on impact. I've only ever seen one deer(a Roe)shot with a ballistic tip and I wasn't impressed, but have seen impressive results on head shot foxes. Maybe someone with more experience of using these heads will give a more definitve answer.
Graham M
I load up 70grn Speer TNT for my T3 and they are devastating on fox as well as being very accurate. I have experimented with both 100grn and 70grn and found that the 70grn bullets strike @ 1½ inches higher at 140yds, so with that in mind I never use a varmint bullet on deer as it simply isn't necessary because most woodland shots are taken within 100yds. All I need to do is aim in the normal area and I know that I won't be more than an inch away, which is neither here nor there when aiming at a 3inch target. Anything further and I simply raise the muzzle an inch or so. Vermin bullets have a tendency to explode almost on impact, which is OK for a small animal such as a fox because they have thinner more delicate bodies. But on larger animals this could result in an horrific surface wound. G.M.
