pin
Purely as an experiment I unloaded a 12g cart so I had just the primer cap in there, stuck it in a sand bank and shot at it with my s410. At about 30 yards its a challenging shot, you have to nail it right on the money to get it to go off, I noticed it "snap" a few times with close shots before it actually ignited. No idea if those little "snap" cracks I heard from it would be enough to get it to ignite the powder.. In short it takes a lot of force in exactly the right place to set one off, no worries in your pocket. I wouldn't like to try it, but I wouldn't have thought it would kill you if one did go off in your pocket. You need the tight constraint of the chamber to direct all the force out in one direction to get the lethal energy into the shot. Loose the explosion would be in all directions and wouldn't have anything like the punch when fired from a gun. Still wouldn't ever like to test the theory, though
markbivvy
safe as house,s, unlike jonno,s rim fire gear that went off in his pocket. the 12g shells would not even go bang, they just sort of fizzle and die. but others may tell you another tale. Cranfield
Cartridges in your pocket are as much a risk, as cartidges rolling round a cartridge bag. I have never ever heard of an accidental discharge in those circumstances.
