The Essex Hunter
I called in to see a farmer this afternoon for a quick chat and he was sure there was a vixen hanging around one of the badger sets. With the rain falling most of the day it was not looking too hopeful, thankfully it did ease off giving us a couple of hours to walk the farm. As this farm backs on to a game shoot the clever ones don’t hang around very long. Having got to the end of the farm we were on out way back when a set of eyes came trotting over the brow. The guy shooting was not used to my sticks so took just a little too long and off it went. Werner was using the lamp and saw the direction it took off in so we nipped back through a gate way to see the eyes blinking, with a bit of encouragement! The rifle went on the sticks much quicker! I gave a couple of small squeaks and what seemed a life time….. Then bang and whack…. Jeff’s first fox with the centre fire….he’s shot a couple on our rough shot with his 12 bore. A milky vixen at 115 yards made him smile…. Also we saw 3 Fallow deer munching along one of the hedges on our way back.. TEH
