wildfowler.250
Hi, I was just wondering what you guys on here would recommend? I could really do with new hide poles for next September. I do a lot of wildfowling do need something that will put up with gales,(i.e. not flimsy)? I could also do with some clips for the netting as there was one flight in particular last year where the net blew everywhere with the wind cause I didn't have enough clips to hold it down. Biggest issue is costs, there's 3 of us that shoot in the family do I'll ideally need 2-3 hides,(ie 8 or even 12 poles ect). What would you guys recommend for poles and clips? Also any good nets for fowling? I'll use them for pigeons and crows as well but that's not as important Thanks! This should really say poles and not 'piles'...ruddy spell check on phones
fieldwanderer
Best I've ever heard is washing line props from wilko or similar, the extendable sort. Hammer the bottom end flat and either cut or fold (hammer) into a point. Not too sure about clips though, there are re-usable cable ties about if you can find them or possibly those wire things they tie kids toys into the box with? Cosd
I use tent pegs for keeping the net down on windy days bought from the pound shop in packs of ten. Also use 3" and 4" plastic clips when needed, pound shop or eBay. Ukshootwarehouse offers a 10% discount on orders over £100, so poles from there I'd say. Good quality and very light. Blunderbuss
"Hide Piles" is a recognised medical term for those afflicted with chalfonts, caused by decoying for too long in cold wet weather I've been down the Wilkos washing line pole route. Flattening the ends only lasts one or two trips. I fabricated some ground spikes from shelf brackets and angled aluminium, there's a thread on it here. They worked fine but they were heavy and bulky and by the time I'd factored in the materials and time, they weren't much cheaper than purpose built ones. I eventually gave them away on here and bought some from the site sponsors, which are lightweight, robust and excellent quality. They've served me well for a few years now.
