High Velocity .22's

Worst bullet or worst performing in that gun?

BOTH (probably), some were so slow they went phut and you could see them drop, about 4" at 50 yards, some went supersonic, and 3 out of the box of 100 didn't fire at all, tried them in both my .22lrs and the cartridge performance/consistancy was so appalling it was difficult/impossible to tell if the rifles liked them or not!

Have heard a lot of bad reports about the Remington's lately

I stopped using them was getting 3/4" groups with a bolt action

and having poppers and crackers all the time

I was ust searching for oppinions on .22 ammo and found this, thanks for doing the work.

I've used winchester x hp subsonics and managed to put 3 through the same hole @ 70 yard using a CZ style with bipod. After that they went a bit wonky and not so sure now.

I have been wondering about the use of HV rounds but if there is extra noise I might as well get a WMR?.

Rifles and ammo should be tailored to need and quarry! I'm not quite understanding this...if HV are noisy I may as well use WMR?

In simple terms .22lr subs (under the speed of sound) circa 100ft lb, .22lr HV (over the speed of sound) circa 120-204ft lb, WMR circa 300++ft lb.

There is a lot of difference between a HV .22lr and WMR, price, power, terminal performance, accuracy, a bit of noise, and commonly quarry.

ATB! :good:

True, the WMR is an altogether more powerful round. Where as the .22 HV offers just a little more extended range and flatter trajectory over the .22 subsonic round. They will hit harder than a subsonic at 100 yards but a WMR has roughly twice the power or more, than the HV.

Dekers,

Sorry not very clear. My point was more that subsonics are very quiet and if I was going to make more noise by choosing HV .22l rounds then I might as well choose something with more punch (even if it is a bit louder).

yes with you with that

some times its nice to have something quiet
